Kelly Lake is CEB’s Chief Executive Officer and Executive Director, with responsibility for running all facets of the business, including strategic planning, revenue management, new product and technology development. As CEB’s CEO, Kelly is leading CEB’s digital transformation from print to digital to platform in response to an increasingly demanding and commercial marketplace. Prior to joining CEB, she was vice president of platforms for Thomson Reuters and was responsible for implementing a global content and technology transformation program working globally with multiple business units in the scientific, financial and legal information spaces. She also spent 12 years with Thomson Reuter’s UK and International businesses working on business transformations, acquisitions integrations serving in a number of product and technology leadership roles, most recently as Chief Technology Officer of Thomson Reuters UK and Ireland. She earned an LLB from Keele University and read for a master’s in international business law at the University of Manchester.
Vicki Cucarola is CEB’s Director of Human Resources, leading HR in the development and implementation of the people strategies driving organizational success through CEB’s key asset―our employees. Vicki has over 30 years of non-profit and higher education experience in operations and human resources management. She has an undergraduate degree in psychology from UC Berkeley, and a MEd in HR/OLPC (Organization Learning, Performance, and Change) from Colorado State University. She previously worked with the Berkeley Student Housing Cooperative, Mills College, and UC’s Office of the President.
Steven Florek is CEB’s Chief Digital Officer. Steve has 20+ years of technology management experience across more than 150 startups, large enterprises, and consulting engagements. Prior to joining CEB, he led enterprise architecture at Edwards Lifesciences, transforming their enterprise data architecture and operations. He led product and technology at ColorPower, an energy technology company partnered with the MIT’s AI laboratory. He was CEO of Bishop Rock Software, a law enforcement analytics startup, and later led R&D at SecureAlert, an offender GPS tracking company. Steve was educated at the Illinois Institute of Technology.
Nell Petri is CEB’s Director of Business Portfolio. Nell has been in legal publishing for over 30 years and is committed to delivering legal research products that are of high quality while being easy to use. While she worked at Bancroft-Whitney, one of California’s premier primary and secondary law publishers, she managed the development of the LawDesk CD-Rom research service. At CEB since 2002, one of Nell’s most important deliverables has been CEB’s online legal research tool OnLAW.
Mike Showalter is CEB’s Interim Director of Sales. His previous software product management experience includes both individual contributor and director roles at companies that serve the academic library market such as ProQuest, EBSCO, and OCLC, as well as multiple startups. He started his technology career at pioneering Internet service provider NorthWestNet, after earning his master’s in librarianship from the University of Washington in 1992 and his BA in history from San Jose State University in 1988.
Casey Hatton is CEB’s Director of Content Operations, leading CEB’s development and production of content across five content types. Casey is an attorney with a unique mixture of law practice and SaaS start-up experience. Before joining CEB in August 2019, she was a practicing attorney, and prior to that she directed professional programs at an early-stage legal start-up. She is also a certified mediator. She has a bachelor of arts degree in American studies from UC Santa Cruz and a law degree from UC Davis.
Christine Gardner is CEB’s Director of Finance. Christine has over 30 years of financial experience in technology companies, most recently as VP of Finance for iPass, Inc., a global provider of software enabled connectivity services for mobile workers. Before that, she held finance leadership roles at Verisign and Network Equipment Technologies as well as several startups. She has a bachelor of science degree in managerial economics from UC Davis.
Stephanie Walker is CEB’s Interim Head of Product and is responsible for the development of new digital products and solutions for California attorneys. Prior to joining CEB, she practiced law as a civil litigator, representing clients in a variety of cases including general commercial and business litigation, insurance defense, products and premises liability, intellectual property, real property, and more. Stephanie received her BA from UCLA and her JD from the University of San Francisco School of Law.
Talia Wise is CEB’s Interim Head of Marketing. Joining CEB in November 2018, Talia brings 25+ years of marketing communications experience to her role. For the majority of her career, she’s led or consulted with marketing teams within educational content publishers going through print to digital product migrations, including Corwin Press, Rowman & Littlefield, Cengage Learning, and Scholastic Inc. Talia earned an Executive MBA from San Jose State University, and a BA from University of California, Santa Cruz. She is a community and consumer member of UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital Oakland, CVC Consumer Advisory Board.
