Hon. Jeffrey Y. Hamilton

Judge Jeffrey Hamilton has been a member of the Fresno Superior Court for over 18 years. During those 18 plus years, he has spent over 10 in the Unlimited Civil Trial Division, and is now serving as the Supervising Judge. Judge Hamilton has presided over 100 jury trials to verdict and 100s more as bench trials to decision. He has also been the longest serving CEQA designated judge in Fresno County having served from 2006 to present.

Judge Hamilton graduated from Santa Clara University School of Law in 1993, and received a BS in Business Administration from Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo in 1987. He began his practice as an Associate at McCormick Barstow in Fresno in the Business Litigation department. Judge Hamilton then moved to the Fresno District Attorney's Office, where he was a trial lawyer for the 10 years prior to his appointment.

Judge Hamilton has extensive teaching experience, including teaching other judges. He has served as one of three faculty members for CJER's “Continuing Judicial Studies Program,” and “Civil Basic & Experienced Courses,” (2017-2019). Judge Hamilton co-taught CJER's “Cow Counties Institute on Pretrial Discovery Conferences,” “Expedited Civil Jury Trials,” and presented Pretrial Discovery Conference practice for multiple counties’ courts and bar associations. He has also been sought out as a presenter and panelist for numerous legal groups including the Association of Business Trial Lawyers, National Business Institute, Fresno Bar Association, and Tulare Bar Association. Judge Hamilton was also an Evidence Instructor at the San Joaquin College of Law. He has been published in the Daily Journal on "Improving Discovery Dispute Resolution in California Courts," and "Government Claims Act.” Judge Hamilton has been a contributing editor for CEB on “Fresno Local Rules,” and has a podcast on CJER's website covering Pretrial Discovery Conferences.
